Simon Carrington made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut leading Mozart's Coronation Mass, on May 25, 1996. He conducted the New England Symphonic Ensemble and a large mixed chorus including 40 graduates and undergraduates from the University of Kansas. The solo quartet for this work include: Jacqueline Venable-soprano, Sarah Holman-Contralto, Ken L. Larmore-tenor, and William Andrew Stuckey-Bass.

In 1968, Simon, a graduate of King's College, Cambridge, England, was a founding member of The King's Singers. For 25 years, he served the group as its co-director and creative force, giving 3000 performances at the world's most prestigious music festivals and concert halls, on radio and television, and on nearly 70 recordings. He also led master classes and workshops in Europe, the U.S., Australia and Japan.

Since his retirement from The King's Singers at the end of 1993, their silver jubilee year, he as been professor, artist-in-residence, and director of choral activities, including the master's and doctoral degree programs in choral conducting, at the University of Kansas. He made his conducting debut in October 1994, leading performances of MonteverdiÍs Vespers 1610 at the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City. In the Spring of 1995, he conducted the U.S. Premiere of a work by the English composer David Bedford; TallisÍs Motet, Spem in Alium; and Britten's War Requiem.

In 1995, he led workshops at choral institutes and festivals in Mainz(Germany), Arnhem(Holland), Bolzano(Italy), and Radford(Virginia). He serves on the jury of the Florilege Vocal de Tours(France), and the German National Music Competition, Bonn, to which he will return in June 1996. This summer, he is doing a number of workshops in Europe: June 29-30 he wil be in Bolzano, Italy, and mid June, he will be on the jury for the German National Music Competition in Bonn. August 3-5, he will be speaking, conducting a workshop and singing baroque literature with an orchestra at the Monteverdi Festival of Budapest in Esztergom.
